There are many milestones in your child's life. In their first year, your baby will go through an incredible amount of motor development, from the first uncontrolled small movements, to rolling from their stomach to their back, to later being able to sit, crawl and walk.
In this post you can learn more about when a baby can sit up on their own and how to best support your child. ♡
Being able to sit up on your own is a big motoric step for both you and your baby. Your baby has now slowly learned to hold up his head on his own, roll from his stomach to his back and back again, and now he must learn to sit without support. It varies from child to child when he can sit up on his own. Most children can already sit up for a short time from the age of six months, while others only master it around 8 months of age. It is important that you do not compare your baby with other babies in the mother's group, for example, if your baby is still lying on the floor, while the others have slowly started to sit up. - Remember that all babies are different and your baby will learn it. ♡
When your baby is big and strong enough to sit up on his own, you will find that both you and your child will have greater freedom. Your child will have a much better view and, not least, free hands to explore the world with.
SUPPORT WITH A STROLLER CUSHION
Many parents want to get their child to sit in the stroller as early as possible, and therefore pile the child up with blankets. Unfortunately, this can be unhealthy for the back and, in the worst case, can cause the child to sit and hang in the joints. The optimal thing is to wait until the child learns to sit up on his own. Only then will the back be completely ready.
Once your child has reached the milestone of being able to sit up on their own, you may want to invest in a stroller cushion. for the stroller. Make sure the stroller cushion is firm and flexible, and provides the correct ergonomic support your child needs when sitting in the stroller.
At BORN Copenhagen we have designed a Stroller cushion that meets all requirements for optimal support. The stroller cushion is flexible and fits in all strollers. The full side panels and back section are extra wide and strong to ensure that your baby sits as well as possible - even when the trip is over uneven roads and paths.
When the stroller cushion When not used in the stroller, it can also be used as a back support in a chair, sofa or on the play mat, or wherever your child might need a little extra support so that they can sit safely and comfortably.
We hope our little post has made you more aware of your child's perhaps upcoming big developmental step - being able to sit up on their own.
