Breastfeeding can be difficult to get right at first. You may need to try several different breastfeeding positions before you find a method that works perfectly for both you and your baby. We've found 5 different and amazing breastfeeding positions for you to get inspired by right here. ♡
SITTING BREASTFEEDING POSITION
If you prefer to sit up when breastfeeding, then the sitting breastfeeding position is perfect for you. Here you can have your baby in a classic sitting position, where the baby lies across your stomach and with the baby's head resting on your forearm. The sitting breastfeeding position is super easy, allows for good eye contact and can be used anywhere.
If you want good support for both you and your baby when breastfeeding in this position, a nursing pillow is the obvious choice. The nursing pillow relieves pressure and provides a more relaxing experience when breastfeeding.
RECLINED BREAST-FEEDING POSITION
In this position you must lie down reclined and with good support behind you. Here you will feel completely relaxed, which helps you relax both your shoulders and neck. Once you have found your place, place your baby belly to belly, either so that the baby lies lengthwise, crosswise or diagonally across you. With this position, most babies will often get a good grip on the breast and your child will have good skin-to-skin contact.
TWIN POSITION
This position may sound like it's only for mothers with twins, but it can actually be used by anyone. With the twin position, you place your baby with their head against your chest and their body under your arm. Here again, it's a good idea to use a nursing pillow to support the baby's neck and back, as the head should be placed directly in front of your chest.
LYING-DOWN BREASTFEEDING POSITION
Many new mothers need to relax well when they want breastfeeding to work. The lying breastfeeding position is good here, especially at night. In this position, you lie on your side with your head on the pillow. You can use the nursing pillow to support your back, so that you lie more comfortably and relaxed. Your baby is placed on your chest, belly to belly. Make sure that your baby is placed with his nose next to your nipple and that his neck bends correctly, as this contributes to an optimal sucking technique.
CROSS-COMPILEMENT
A crisscross breastfeeding position is a bit like the classic sitting breastfeeding position. Here, the baby is placed on your lap, so that contact is made with the stomach. It is important that the child has good support, in the form of a nursing pillow , for example, so that the head is placed directly in front of the chest. This makes it easier for your child to breastfeed.
This position is especially good to try if your baby has trouble latching on properly, as you can help and support the baby with your hands so that breastfeeding can be successful.
PRODUCTS THAT HELP YOU ON YOUR WAY ♡
A nursing pillow is an indispensable aid when breastfeeding. Breastfeeding happens many times a day, which can be hard on the body. You may or may not have experienced tension in your shoulders, neck and arms when holding your baby in a given breastfeeding position. With a nursing pillow, you can relieve the body and instead focus on the contact between you and your baby.
For many pregnant women, the nursing pillow also functions as a pregnancy pillow, which, with its flexibility and fullness, can support and relieve discomfort and tension from a restless night's sleep.
